RE: City of Vancouver 2010 Access and Inclusion Award Nominee: Citizens for Accessible Neighbourhoods (CAN)
BC Disability Games Society is pleased to nominate Citizens for Accessible Neighbourhoods for the City of Vancouver’s Access and Inclusion Award in 2010.
CAN and its Executive Director, Heather McCain, have identified gaps that people with disabilities experience. CAN provides clear and concise information on community programs and services, adaptive sport and recreation, transportation and travel. Also, Universal Design and Access are explained in plain language and this creates opportunities for communities to create accessible and inclusive neighbourhoods
BC Disability Games Society supports the nomination for CAN based on the valuabl contributions of the organization for the disabled residents of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Heather McCain serves as a volunteer on many community boards including CAN and is a highly respected role model for people with disabilities.
