This workshop is a level 2 class and pairs well with our Neurodiversity 101 class, which covers the basics about neurodiversity. In the 101 workshop, we give definitions, discuss language, talk about different models of neurodiversity and discuss what conditions fall under the umbrella of neurodiversity.
This 102 workshop gives a brief overview about the conditions that fall under the umbrella of neurodiversity. We talk about the barriers that neurodivergent people experience and how we can reduce them. We offer action items on how we can be less ableist and stop perpetuating the negative stigma of neurodivergence. We ask you to re-think what we label as “bad” behavior. We talk about accommodations and why these are necessary. We also created content that is geared for neurodivergent people; not just about neurodivergent people. This includes tips such as how to be anti-capitalist, find your community, “body-doubling”, consider the cultural narrative around you and how to center what you need and want, in the ideal world.
All of CAN/LET’S’s neurodiversity workshops are created, researched and facilitated by neurodivergent people. Their lived expertise is vital to properly representing neurodiversity.
