University of Northern BC

June 21, 2025

LET’S was contacted by a staff person in the Office of Equity and Inclusion at UNBC and asked if they would participate in the EDIA Speaker Series.

About the EDIA Speaker Series

“The series aims to facilitate meaningful discussions on crucial EDIA topics. Each session will feature an expert speaker, followed by guided discussions intended to translate awareness into actionable steps that foster a more inclusive and equitable campus environment.

This fall, the series commenced with Larissa Crawford, who provided our attendees with a foundational understanding, followed by Ji-Youn Kim, who focused on health + wellness.

We are particularly interested in a speaker who can share their expertise on accessibility related topics, including, but not limited to:

Best practices for creating and implementing accessibility policies
Language and ableism”
Additional ideas or topics that are relevant to advancing accessibility, equity and diversity.

Disability Awareness Workshop with UNBC Focus

LET’S provided a Disability Awareness workshop with an accessibility section specific to the University of Northern BC (Prince George campus). Prior to the workshop, we did a quick tour of the campus and took photographs of accessibility facilitators and barriers. The campus, like many academic institutions, has a mix of accessibility and inaccessibility. Having photographs of the very place they work at created a meaningful conversation with participants. Concrete examples help people understand how important it is to incorporate accessibility features that are consistent, holistic, and safe.
