Live Educate Transform Society is committed to ensuring diverse, intersectional voices and perspectives are represented, amplified, and accessible within the broader community.
In 2024, LET’S partnered with Realize (Ontario) on a research project about the employment experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ people with episodic disabilities. Our team interviewed 49 people about their lived and living experiences. We realized that most of the interviewees had done their own deep dive into a specific intersection of their identities, such as the relationship between eating disorders and neurodivergence or the overlapping impacts of neurodivergence, disability, and anti-fat bias.
Out of necessity, people with disabilities and neurodivergent folks have become self- advocates and researchers, developing in depth knowledge about their own identities, health needs, and accommodations. These insights are essential for navigating biased systems, however, the knowledge is often siloed, kept within small circles. LET’S is committed to supporting the sharing of these valuable perspectives, creating opportunities for collective learning and growth.
After completing our research with Realize, LET’S committed to launching a mentorship program that provides both skills training and financial support to 2SLGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and/or disabled individuals. This initiative empowers participants to develop workshops, to be housed on LET’S website, that reflect and celebrate the incredible diversity of experiences within our communities.
We are very excited and proud to announce an exciting milestone: our first mentee, Casey Skinner, has completed their workshop, titled Interacting with Hearing Loss. This workshop is an example of our mission to nurture and support emerging voices and offer practical insights and authentic, lived perspectives to the broader community.
This year, LET’S proudly celebrates 20 years of meaningful work. In that time, we have experienced the transformative change that happens through the sharing and valuing of lived experience, both individually and within the broader community. As we enter our 3rd decade, we are excited to continue our work of empowering and amplifying a diversity of voices.
