PuSh

LET’S was invited back this year by the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival to continue our collaboration on accessibility-focused learning in arts spaces. Building on last year’s session, Accessible PuSh Coordinator Andrea Cownden reached out to ask Heather to once again support staff, volunteers, and partners in deepening their understanding of accessibility in an arts context through a 2nd edition of our workshop.

This year’s access education workshop again featured LET’S Founder–Executive Director, Heather McCain (they/them), who brought over 20 years of experience facilitating sessions on disability and access, alongside their own lived experience of disability. Heather revisited key concepts related to disability and ableism, then guided participants in a conversation about accessibility and the arts, with particular attention to building trust and lasting relationships with Disabled and Deaf/deaf community members.

Andrea shared that her own conversations with Heather have been enlightening and energizing, and expressed excitement about offering another opportunity for a wider group of people to learn from Heather’s knowledge and passion. LET’S is grateful to continue this relationship with PuSh and to contribute to the ongoing work of cultivating a vibrant, equitable arts culture in the city.
