Low Sensory Spaces

Marpole Library

Marpole Library

LET’S delivered a Disability Awareness workshop at the Vancouver Public Library Wellness Conference, focusing on how libraries can better support disabled and neurodivergent patrons and staff through everyday practice, policy, and culture shift. The session introduced participants concrete strategies for building more accessible, welcoming spaces – such as sensory supports, flexible communication options, and proactive access information.

Following the conference, 1 of the participants, a librarian from VPL’s Marpole branch, reached out to LET’S to request a sensory kit. This kit will support people who benefit from tools like fidgets, noise-reduction options, and other sensory-regulating items when using the library.

Their follow-up is a powerful example of how Disability Awareness workshops can move beyond theory into tangible action, with staff taking initiative to apply what they learned and create environments where disabled and neurodivergent community members can participate more fully.
