Engineers and Geoscientists BC

Following a positive response to our initial session, Engineers and Geoscientists BC invited LET’S back to deliver a 2nd workshop on neurodivergence for their community.

This follow-up session built on foundational concepts and moved deeper into what neurodiversity-affirming practice can look like in technical, regulatory, and professional environments. Participants explored how autistic, ADHD, and other neurodivergent engineers and geoscientists often encounter rigid expectations around communication, productivity, and “professionalism” that may not account for different bodyminds and ways of processing information.

Using examples from engineering and geoscience contexts, we discussed practical strategies for creating more accessible workplaces, mentoring relationships, and professional development opportunities. This included examining recruitment and interview practices, team communication norms, sensory and cognitive load in work environments, and how performance is evaluated. The workshop also highlighted the strengths and contributions neurodivergent professionals bring to problem-solving, innovation, and risk assessment when they are supported rather than pressured to mask.
