Kwantlen Polytechnic University – Surrey

Kathleen Yang (she/her), Disability Justice Coordinator with the Office of Equity & Inclusive Communities at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, recently reached out to LET’S to purchase a sensory kit for campus events, including an upcoming anti-racism session. By proactively integrating sensory supports into event planning, their department is helping ensure that disabled, neurodivergent, and sensory-seeking participants can engage more fully in conversations. This aligns closely with LET’S ongoing work to recognize and met access needs and embed disability justice into every aspect of community and institutional life.

The sensory kit Kathleen ordered will provide a range of tactile and fidget items designed to support regulation, focus, and comfort in spaces that can otherwise be overwhelming. By incorporating these tools into events, Kathleen and the Office of Equity & Inclusive Communities are modeling what it looks like to make equity work itself more accessible, rather than expecting disabled people to navigate inaccessible spaces in order to participate in justice-focused dialogues. We are grateful to be in relationship with practitioners like Kathleen who recognize disability justice as integral to this work.
